200 Years of DeKalb County at DeKalb History Center Museum
Celebrate more than two centuries of local history in this exhibition tracing the evolution of DeKalb County. 200 Years of DeKalb County highlights the people, places and pivotal moments that have shaped the region from its earliest days to the present.
Beginning with the ancestral homelands of Indigenous Peoples including the Muscogee (Creek) and Cherokee Nations, the exhibit explores the county’s establishment in 1822 following the Land Lottery of 1821.
Visitors can follow DeKalb’s transformation from a rural county into an industrial center known for dairy production and granite poultry grit, then into a rapidly growing postwar community shaped by transportation, business and civic leadership.
Presented at the Historic DeKalb Courthouse, the exhibit connects historical milestones to the vibrant and diverse county that exists today.
